THE CONTRIBUTION OF ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT TO THE HUMANIZATION OF CARE IN TEACHING MATERNITY HOSPITALS: AN ANALYSIS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SOCIAL WORK

Abstract

Humanization of healthcare is one of the guiding principles of the Brazilian Unified Health System, requiring health services to develop practices focused on quality care, welcoming environments, and the protection of users’ rights. In this context, administrative management plays a fundamental role in organizing institutional processes, especially in teaching hospitals, which combine healthcare, education, and research activities. This study aimed to analyze the contribution of administrative management to the humanization of care in teaching maternity hospitals from the perspective of Social Work. This is a qualitative, basic research study with exploratory and descriptive objectives, developed through bibliographic and documentary research. Data collection was conducted through books, scientific articles, official documents, and legislation related to healthcare humanization, hospital management, the Brazilian Unified Health System, teaching maternity hospitals, and Social Work. The collected material was analyzed through thematic content analysis. The results showed that humanized care does not depend exclusively on healthcare teams, but also on the organization of administrative processes, integration among institutional sectors, and management efficiency. It was observed that the ethical and political foundations of Social Work provide important contributions to strengthening administrative practices based on the defense of rights, equity, and quality healthcare. It is concluded that administrative management represents a strategic dimension of healthcare production, contributing to the implementation of the principles of the Brazilian Unified Health System and to the construction of more humanized, efficient institutional environments committed to excellence in healthcare delivery.
