Abstract

This article sought to analyze the scientific evidence available in the literature on the use of educational technologies as teaching tools regarding electronic smoking devices (ESDs). This is an integrative review that included articles indexed in the following databases: PUBMED, LILACS, COCHRANE, SciELO, MEDLINE, and EMBASE, from 2013 to 2022. A total of 29 studies were identified, of which 5 met the required criteria. According to the studies analyzed in this review, the use of educational technologies, such as video games or exposure to anti-tobacco advertisements, has proven effective in informing young people and, thus, deterring them from initiating tobacco use. Despite the widespread technological access that a large portion of the world’s population has to smartphones and computers for connecting to the internet, social media, video-sharing platforms, and similar resources, these tools are rarely used to convey effective information about the recent yet growing use of e-cigarettes and their harms.
