Abstract

This article aimed to develop educational practices regarding the environment and health in municipal schools, focusing on preventing diseases caused by the improper disposal of solid waste in Coroatá, Maranhão. The study is justified by the need to promote environmental education from childhood to foster citizens who are more conscious of and responsible for environmental issues. The methodology involved a literature review and the implementation of playful activities—such as puppet storytelling, theater, games, competitions, discussion circles, and workshops on solid waste sorting and drawing. The results indicate great enthusiasm among students for all the proposed activities, as well as a strong interest in the subject matter and a clear understanding and retention of the information conveyed during presentations and discussions. Furthermore, the students were able to fully explore their creativity, effectively expressing what they had learned through the activities. Thus, the playful activities played a crucial role by sparking student interest, facilitating the comprehension and assimilation of content, fostering creativity, and enabling the sharing of what was learned in a manner that was simple yet dynamic and meaningful.
