This article aims to promote a reflection and outline an overview of the increasing exposure of data on the internet in a society that is increasingly connected to new information technologies and understand how this can violate the right to privacy - guarantee fundamental provided for in the most important norm of the Brazilian legal system. The article begins with a historical and socio-political contextualization of how the law that currently regulates the protection of privacy on the internet – General Data Protection Law (LGPD) emerged. In addition, it deals with how the protection of the right to privacy is postulated in the aforementioned law and what are the sanctions in case of violation. It was also addressed about privacy and intimacy on the internet and what these words mean to certain thinkers. Finally, a concrete case involving the violation of the right to privacy and intimacy on the internet in a certain social network was exposed. In this sense, the research was carried out using the qualitative method, through a literature review. The use of the so-called hypothetical-deductive method is also noteworthy.
