THE DEMOCRATIC RULE OF LAW: EDUCATION RESIGNIFYING RIGHTS EDUCATION TO GUARANTEE THE EXERCISE OF DEMOCRACY

Abstract

The consolidation of the Democratic Rule of Law depends on the formation of citizens capable of understanding, exercising, and defending their rights and duties in the social context. In this sense, education assumes a central role as a privileged space for the promotion of citizenship, democratic participation, and the culture of human rights. This article aims to analyze the re-signification of education through the teaching of rights as a fundamental instrument for guaranteeing the exercise of Democracy. This is a qualitative research, developed through an integrative literature review, with an exploratory-analytical character, which allows the systematization and integration of theoretical and empirical studies related to education, democracy, and human rights. The investigation is based on the analysis of contemporary academic productions and legal and normative frameworks of Brazilian education. The results indicate that human rights education plays an essential role in strengthening democracy by promoting the formation of critical, autonomous, and socially participatory subjects. It is concluded that integrating the teaching of rights into pedagogical practices contributes to democratic life in the school environment and to the consolidation of the principles of the Democratic Rule of Law.
