Abstract

Prostate cancer—the second most common malignant neoplasm among men and a major cause of morbidity and mortality—represents one of the most significant public health challenges in Brazil. This descriptive observational study aims to examine the epidemiological profile of hospitalizations for malignant prostate neoplasms in the state of Paraná between 2015 and 2025, stratified by health regions and age groups. Based on data from DATASUS and evidence from scientific literature, the highest concentration of cases is found in individuals aged 60 years or older, particularly within the 60–69 and 70–79 age groups. Furthermore, significant regional heterogeneity is observed, driven by socioeconomic factors, disparities in access to specialized oncological services, and local demographic characteristics. Reviewed studies also highlight the influence of factors such as family history, dietary patterns, low educational attainment, and cultural barriers regarding prevention, all of which contribute to delayed diagnosis and worsened clinical outcomes. Thus, this integrated analysis underscores the need for more equitable public policies focused on timely screening, the reduction of regional inequalities, and the strengthening of the healthcare network—particularly for the elderly population—in order to mitigate the disease's impact and improve the quality of oncological care.
