This research aimed to discuss the use of herbal medicines in Brazil, highlighting their benefits and the risks of interactions. Herbal medicines are products derived from plant-based raw materials and are widely used in Brazil. However, despite containing active ingredients considered to be of natural origin, it is important to emphasize the potential drug interactions that can arise when they are used in combination with synthetic pharmaceuticals. Thus, the study addresses the following central question: How has the use of herbal medicines in Brazil contributed to the population's health, and what are the main risks associated with drug interactions? The general objective of the study is to analyze the use of herbal medicines in Brazil, aiming to promote their rational and safe use. Specific objectives include investigating the benefits and risks of improper use through a literature review, as well as discussing the importance of professional guidance and health education. The study employs a bibliographic and documentary methodology based on the analysis and review of 25 studies and official documents. Finally, the results contribute to improvements in pharmaceutical care by reinforcing the rational use of herbal medicines, thereby helping to avoid potential risks stemming from interactions with other medications.
