ANALYSIS OF THE EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE AND MORTALITY OF HOSPITALIZATIONS FOR HEART FAILURE IN CASCAVEL, PARANÁ, FROM 2015 TO 2024

Abstract

Heart failure (HF) is a highly prevalent clinical condition with high morbidity and mortality rates, representing one of the leading causes of hospital admissions in Brazil. The pathophysiology of the disease is characterized by the heart’s inability to pump sufficient blood volume to meet the metabolic needs of the body’s tissues and results from functional abnormalities in the heart muscle, valves, or electrical system. The objective of this study is to determine whether there is a relevant epidemiological profile of hospitalizations for heart failure and its relationship to patient mortality, focusing on the municipality of Cascavel as the study area and covering the years 2015 to 2024. Data were collected from the DATASUS hospital information system. This is a retrospective descriptive epidemiological analysis that evaluated markers such as sex, age, number of hospitalizations, and mortality rate. The results revealed 2,741 hospitalizations and 321 deaths during the decade analyzed. Thus, the relevance of this discussion and the importance of expanding strategies to control the disease and its related comorbidities in the Cascavel context are evident.
