Abstract

COVID-19 led to a significant increase in the demand for hygiene and prevention products, with 70% alcohol gel being one of the main protective measures recommended by health authorities. Due to product shortages, several institutions began producing this input on an emergency basis to meet the needs of the population and healthcare services. However, even in emergency situations, production processes must comply with essential quality and safety standards. In this context, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are indispensable for standardizing processes, controlling raw materials, ensuring cleanliness in production environments, and guaranteeing product quality. This study aims to investigate the importance of implementing GMP in the emergency production of 70% alcohol gel during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is an exploratory, descriptive, and qualitative study developed through a bibliographic review in scientific databases. The results demonstrate that strict adherence to GMP was essential for standardizing production processes, minimizing sanitary risks, and maintaining the effectiveness of the final product. Therefore, the implementation of these practices proved to be fundamental in ensuring the quality and safety of alcohol gel, standing out as an indispensable tool in addressing public health crises and preventing the spread of infectious agents.
