Abstract

Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), also known as photobiomodulation, has been widely employed in Dentistry as a complementary therapy to enhance tissue recovery after surgical procedures. This study aimed to analyze the effects of low-level laser therapy on postsurgical wound healing, highlighting its mechanisms of action, clinical applications, therapeutic benefits, and limitations. This is a narrative literature review conducted through the analysis of national and international scientific articles published between 2014 and 2025. The studies reviewed demonstrated that LLLT acts by modulating the inflammatory response, stimulating cell proliferation, promoting collagen synthesis and angiogenesis, and contributing to the acceleration of the healing process. In addition, clinical benefits related to the reduction of pain, edema, and postoperative discomfort were observed, leading to improved recovery in patients undergoing dental procedures. Despite the promising results, significant variability was found among the application protocols described in the literature, making it difficult to standardize the technique and compare findings across studies. It can be concluded that Low-Level Laser Therapy is a safe and effective therapeutic alternative to support postsurgical wound healing, although further studies are needed to establish more consistent and widely applicable clinical protocols.
