THE NURSE'S CONTRIBUTION TO THE PREVENTION OF PRESSURE INJURIES DURING ELECTIVE SURGERIES

Introduction: Pressure injuries during the intraoperative period represent a significant health issue and are considered preventable adverse events directly related to the quality of surgical care. Objective: To analyze scientific evidence regarding the role of nurses in preventing pressure injuries during the intraoperative period of long-duration elective surgeries. Methodology: This is na integrative literature review conducted through searches in the LILACS, MEDLINE, BDENF, SciELO, PubMed, and Science Direct databases, including studies published between 2021 and 2026, available in full text and in Portuguese. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 12 studies were selected for the final sample. Results and Discussion: The findings indicated that the main risk factors include prolonged surgical time, inadequate positioning, and patients clinical conditions. The nurse’s role proved essential in risk assessment, care planning, and implementation of preventive measures. Strategies such as the use of support surfaces, proper positioning, and application of risk assessment tools like the ELPO scale were highlighted. Conclusion: It is concluded that preventing pressure injuries during the intraoperative period requires systematic, evidence-based nursing care, which is fundamental to patient safety and quality of care.
