Colostomy in children represents a surgical procedure that profoundly changes the routine of both the child and their family, affecting not only physical aspects but also emotional, social, and behavioral dimensions. This study aimed to understand the psychosocial effects of colostomy in children and to highlight the importance of nursing care in adaptation, quality of life, and social inclusion. This research consisted of an integrative literature review with a descriptive design and qualitative approach, conducted through searches in the following databases: Virtual Health Library (VHL), PubMed, MEDLINE, LILACS, BDENF, and the CAPES Portal. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 25 articles published between 2020 and 2025 were selected. The results showed that children with colostomies frequently experience fear, embarrassment, insecurity, low self-esteem, and concerns about social rejection, particularly in the school environment. It was also found that family members and caregivers face emotional overload, challenges related to stoma management, and a continuous need for professional support. Nurses played an essential role in reducing psychosocial impacts by providing specialized consultations, educational interventions, emotional support, promotion of self-care, and continuous follow-up. Furthermore, educational technologies, family training, and health education contributed to increasing the autonomy, confidence, and adaptation of both the child and their family. Therefore, nursing care, when delivered in a comprehensive and humanized manner, significantly contributes to adaptation to colostomy, improving quality of life, social inclusion, and biopsychosocial well-being.
