Palliative care is essential in assisting oncology patients in the terminal stage, as it aims to promote comfort, quality of life, and relief of suffering. In this context, the nurse plays a crucial role, acting directly in the physical, emotional, and humane care of the patient and the family. This study aimed to analyze the challenges faced by nursing in palliative care for patients with terminal-stage cancer, highlighting the importance of the nurse's role in this process. The results demonstrated that the main challenges faced by professionals are related to the lack of academic preparation, work overload, and emotional difficulties in the face of life's terminal stage. In addition, it was evident that humanized care, active listening, and pain control are fundamental to ensuring dignity and comfort for the patient. It is concluded that it is necessary to strengthen the education and training of nursing professionals to improve the quality of care provided in palliative care.
