Purchasing management has assumed a strategic role in organizations due to its ability to contribute to cost reduction, resource optimization, and increased operational efficiency. In this context, centralized purchasing and shared purchasing stand out as management models capable of promoting economic, administrative, and institutional gains through the centralization and integration of acquisition processes. This study aimed to analyze the main characteristics, benefits, and challenges of centralized purchasing and shared purchasing, seeking to understand how these strategies can contribute to organizational efficiency, resource rationalization, and the promotion of sustainable practices in acquisition processes. This is a bibliographic research, with a qualitative approach and descriptive nature. The literature review identified that the adoption of centralized and shared purchasing strategies favors the achievement of economies of scale, the strengthening of negotiating power with suppliers, the standardization of acquisition processes, and the improvement of organizational governance. Furthermore, it was found that interorganizational cooperation contributes to knowledge sharing, resource rationalization, and the promotion of sustainable practices in contracting. However, the literature also points to challenges related to the coordination of activities, the governance of processes, the alignment of participants' interests, and the need for adequate planning and control structures. It is concluded that purchasing centers and shared procurement represent important management tools.
