Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of hospitalizations for asthma in children and adolescents in the state of Paraná, Brazil, between 2014 and 2024, based on data obtained from DATASUS. This is an epidemiological, descriptive, cross-sectional, and quantitative study conducted using secondary data from the Hospital Information System of the Unified Health System (SIH/SUS). The following variables were analyzed: year of admission, sex, age group, race/ethnicity, health region, and number of deaths. During the study period, 34,397 hospitalizations for asthma were recorded, with a predominance of males and a higher frequency in the 1–4 years age group. A reduction in hospitalizations was observed throughout the analyzed period, especially in 2020. Regarding mortality, 18 deaths were recorded, demonstrating low lethality of the disease. It is concluded that asthma remains an important cause of morbidity in the pediatric population, reinforcing the need for strategies focused on disease control and reduction of hospitalizations.
