ANALYSIS OF THE DERMATOLOGICAL APPROACH TO FEMALE ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA THROUGH THE USE OF MINOXIDIL

Abstract

Female androgenetic alopecia is a chronic dermatological condition characterized by progressive miniaturization of hair follicles and reduced hair density, significantly impacting patients’ quality of life. This study aimed to analyze the scientific evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of Minoxidil in the treatment of female androgenetic alopecia. This is an integrative literature review conducted using the databases Virtual Health Library (VHL), PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, Google Scholar, and CAPES Journals, including studies published between 2020 and 2025. The results demonstrated that topical 5% Minoxidil remains the first-line therapy, promoting significant increases in hair density, hair thickness, and reduction of hair loss. Low-dose oral Minoxidil also showed relevant efficacy, especially in patients with low adherence to topical treatment. Combined therapies such as microneedling, spironolactone, and adjuvant therapies demonstrated superior outcomes in some studies. It is concluded that the treatment of female androgenetic alopecia should be individualized, considering therapeutic efficacy, safety profile, and impact on patients’ quality of life.
