Abstract

Introduction: The increase in the elderly population is associated with a rise in fall episodes, which represent an important cause of morbidity, mortality, and loss of functional autonomy. In this context, physiotherapy plays a fundamental role in the rehabilitation and prevention of these events. Objective: To analyze the physiotherapeutic strategies used in the rehabilitation of elderly individuals after falls and their impacts on functionality and quality of life. Method: This is an integrative literature review with a qualitative and descriptive approach, conducted through searches in the SciELO, PEDro, PubMed, BVS, and Google Scholar databases, considering studies published between 2002 and 2025. Initially, 451 studies were identified, and 19 articles were selected after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The extracted data were analyzed descriptively, organized into thematic categories, and presented through tables, charts, and narrative synthesis, allowing comparison of findings among the included studies. Results: The findings showed that interventions such as muscle strengthening, balance training, gait re-education, and postural control are effective in improving functionality, mobility, and functional independence, as well as reducing the risk of new falls. Conclusion: It is concluded that physiotherapy plays an essential role in the rehabilitation and prevention of falls in elderly individuals, promoting quality of life and functional autonomy.
