Femicide is the most extreme form of violence against women, representing a serious violation of human rights and human dignity. In Brazil, the phenomenon is deeply related to historical, cultural, and social factors, such as structural sexism and gender inequality. This work aims to analyze femicide from a legal and social perspective, addressing its conceptualization, legislative evolution, main causes, social impacts, and public policies aimed at its prevention and confrontation. It uses bibliographic and documentary research methodology, based on legislation, doctrines, scientific articles, and institutional reports. It concludes that, despite legal advances, such as the criminalization of femicide by Law No. 13.104/2015, there are still major challenges in the implementation of public policies and the cultural change necessary for the eradication of gender-based violence in the country.
