This article discusses the importance of conflict mediation in Basic Education, considering that conflicts are part of school coexistence and can become formative opportunities when handled in a dialogical and pedagogical way. The objective was to analyze normative foundations and theoretical references that support mediation as a strategy to improve relationships, prevent violence, and strengthen school climate. Methodologically, this is a narrative literature review with a qualitative approach, based on legal documents and studies on mediation, school coexistence, and integral education. The findings indicate that the BNCC highlights the need to develop competencies related to empathy, dialogue, and conflict resolution, while legal frameworks recognize mediation as a legitimate means of dealing with disputes and establish preventive measures to address bullying. It also shows that implementing mediation practices depends on training, institutional protocols, and integration into the pedagogical project, avoiding exclusively punitive responses. The study concludes that conflict mediation is a relevant strategy to strengthen democratic coexistence in schools and promote education for dialogue in Basic Education.
