This article raises concepts and reflections on the importance of mastering reading comprehension as a tool for identity construction and transformation of individuals and the social context in which they are embedded. Its methodology is exploratory research and a bibliographic study of some of the main authors who discuss the topic, such as Bakhtin (2014), Koch (2011), Marcuschi (2010), Soares (2011), Freire (2024), Saviani (2008), and Cobucci and Machado (2023). Thus, this study presents dialogical relationships that intertwine and constitute reflections that point towards an emancipatory and liberating educational praxis.
