Acute kidney injury is diagnosed in various animals, with approximately 1.5% of patients treated presenting this condition. Many of these cases are aggravated by the indiscriminate use of anti-inflammatory drugs, which are metabolized by the kidneys, overloading them and contributing to the progressive loss of nephrons in these organs. The methodology adopted in this study is qualitative in nature, with a descriptive objective, based on a case report and a detailed literature review. The main objective is to analyze the prevalence of acute renal failure in small animals associated with the excessive use of anti-inflammatory medications. By studying the mechanisms of action of these drugs, the severity of indiscriminate use in relation to renal problems becomes evident, making a careful evaluation of the animals' health status essential before prescribing these medications. Therefore, it is imperative that veterinarians adopt a more cautious and individualized approach in the selection and administration of these drugs in order to minimize risks and protect patients' renal function.
