Objective: To describe the effectiveness of surgical techniques in the repair of inguinal hernias, emphasizing the use of meshes. Methods: This is an integrative literature review that analyzed 25 studies published in the PubMed and Regional Health Portal BVS databases, including studies published in the last year (2023-2024), full-text articles, and controlled clinical trials. Results: It was found that, although the Lichtenstein technique is widely used, methods such as TEP and TAPP, especially without mesh fixation, have shown positive results in terms of comfort and postoperative recovery. Conclusion: The choice of technique and approach for inguinal hernia repair should primarily consider the clinical profile of the patient and the impacts on quality of life after surgery.
