PUBLIC HEALTH AND EDUCATION: CARE PRACTICES
Keywords:
Student multiplier. Peer education. Public health – Brazil. Care practices – Health education.Abstract
This book arises from the encounter between Public Health and Education, in scenarios where learning and caring happen simultaneously: at school, in primary care, in services, and in the community. Its purpose is to bring together texts that engage with real-life challenges and transform them into pathways for intervention, training, and decision-making. By organizing these articles into a single volume, we seek to facilitate access to ideas, models, and strategies that have already proven useful for improving practices and expanding impacts.
What unites the chapters is the commitment to protagonism, participation, and the collective construction of care. Whether in the training of multiplier students, in problem-based learning as an active methodology, or in gamification in medical education, education appears as a concrete tool to produce autonomy, engagement, and change in practices. In common, the texts argue that learning is not an isolated act, but a social process that is strengthened when connected to service, the community, and the health needs of the real world.
Another central link is the commitment to equity and the protection of vulnerable groups and contexts. The discussion on school violence and bullying, as well as strategies for expanding screening and linking to care, reaffirms that health education and Public Health go hand in hand when facing barriers to access, stigma, and inequalities. Thus, the book proposes interventions that are not limited to information, but also mobilize support, support networks, and institutional accountability.
Ultimately, this collection aims to serve as a guide for consultation and inspiration for primary care professionals, health and education workers, teachers, students, and managers. The expectation is that each chapter will contribute to strengthening more critical, inclusive, and evidence-based educational practices, without losing sight of feasibility in everyday life. May the reader find here not only current topics, but also tools to act, adapt, and build solutions in their own territory.
