The teaching and learning process in Youth and Adult Education goes far beyond simply teaching reading and writing; it requires the use of methodologies that consider the cognitive, social, and cultural aspects present in each learner's trajectory. Within this context, the question that guided this research was how the meaningful learning proposed by Ausubel can assist in the teaching and learning process of Youth and Adult Education. The methodology employed was a literature review of articles and official documents that address the subject. As a result, it was possible to verify that the Theory of Meaningful Learning proposed by David Ausubel brings great benefits to Youth and Adult Education, as it works with the students' prior knowledge, taking into account their experiences and, based on them, formulating the activities to be developed, thus forming a solid and lasting knowledge.
