Diabetes mellitus is among the non-communicable chronic diseases that stand out in Brazil and in the world, leading to a public health problem, which has increased morbidity and mortality rates. Although diabetes can be present in different age groups, the elderly population is more susceptible to some problems related to this disease, since, over time, limitations in some physiological functions occur, leading to errors related to the inappropriate use of medications. Thus, the implementation of pharmaceutical care is of great importance in this diabetic population, as the elderly need help in pharmacological treatment, providing a better quality of life. Therefore, this study aims to promote pharmaceutical care to elderly patients with diabetes mellitus. The work was carried out through the search for original articles and reviews such as the Scielo and Lilacs journal portal. In this context, it is known that the pharmacist is the professional trained to carry out the pharmacological follow-up of patients, dynamically and accurately guiding this population. It is therefore concluded that the pharmacist will contribute to treatment adherence, minimizing risks of drug interactions and adverse reactions, promoting the promotion, protection and recovery of the elderly diabetic patient.
