The final disposal of municipal solid waste has been a major concern of city managers in Brazil. The expansion of urban centers has generated increased production of waste. In 2010, Law No. 12,305 was enacted, the National Plan for Solid Waste, which established, among other important regulations, the extinction of open dumps and controlled landfills as disposal of municipal solid waste. In addition, the generation of electricity in the country is increasingly uncertain, because of climate change. In view of this, this final paper wants to present the alternative deployment of gasification plants for energy utilization of municipal solid waste in the municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul state, solving the problem of final waste disposal, and generating energy alternative for the country.
