The purpose of this article is to critically analyze structural racism and the necessity of universalizing education, particularly for the Brazilian Black community, through reflections on an image. The study is grounded in renowned authors who analyze communication and the visual discourse of photography through semiotics, such as Roland Barthes. Furthermore, it aims to discuss the mechanisms and representations that have marginalized Black Brazilians from the abolition of slavery in 1888 to the present day. In this context, Education, which should fulfill an emancipatory role, still faces obstacles to becoming truly inclusive and universal.
