Music education is configured in teaching and learning as an artistic language, involving theoretical, practical, and expressive aspects. In the school environment, its importance is significant, as it contributes to the cognitive, emotional, and social development of students, stimulating multiple aspects such as creativity, discipline, concentration, and sensitivity. Furthermore, it promotes interaction among students, fostering cooperation and respect for differences. Therefore, music education is essential for the integral formation of the individual, enriching the pedagogical process and strengthening school culture. From this perspective, the objective of this research was to verify and analyze studies that demonstrate the relevance of music in school, as well as its contribution to the integral development of students. This is a qualitative, bibliographical research, and this article presents an integrative literature review on the importance of music education in the school context, highlighting its contribution to the teaching-learning process. The analysis included publications between 1996 and 2025, including scientific articles, dissertations, legislation, and normative documents such as the BNCC (Brazilian National Curriculum Base). The results indicate that the inclusion of music in the school curriculum is fundamental for a comprehensive, pluralistic, and humanized education. Thus, music, as an interdisciplinary language, promotes the cognitive, affective, motor, and social development of students, in addition to acting as an effective pedagogical tool in improving academic performance, social inclusion, and the formation of more creative, critical, and sensitive individuals.
