This article investigates the relationship between sports practice and cognitive skills, with an emphasis on visual perception and reaction time in military police officers. The research proposes that regular participation in sports, especially open modalities like football and basketball, can improve the ability for quick reactions and accuracy in interpreting visual stimuli, which are crucial skills for decision-making in high-risk situations. Based on a literature review, studies on neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and public safety were analyzed, addressing the impact of sports practice on the cognitive performance of police officers. The results suggest that sports practice contributes to the improvement of rapid decision-making and the reduction of reaction time, favoring efficient performance in stressful situations. The analysis also discusses how sports modalities influence the development of essential cognitive skills for police work, such as the ability to identify patterns and make quick decisions in dynamic environments. The study concludes that integrating sports practice into police training can be an effective strategy to enhance visual perception and cognitive performance in critical situations.
