Abstract

This work aims to conduct passive and participant observation in the field of mental health. It observes pathologies and the management of these disorders, as well as to understand and provide information on the nature of clinics or therapeutic residences after the psychiatric reform in Brazil in 2001, with the approval of Law No. 10.216, also known as the Anti-Asylum Law or Paulo Delgado Law. The institution chosen for this work was the Gabriela de Carvalho Psychosocial Support Clinic, popularly known as Casa Gabriela. This institution belongs to the group of long-term care facilities, meaning they house people for determined/undetermined periods, offering housing, food, care, and other services. The methodology used was data collection through face-to-face interviews with staff, managers, and residents of the house. The internship was divided into five weeks, with four hours per week, totaling twenty hours of in-person work at the house. The theoretical part of the internship was conducted in the classroom, applying content related to the topic of Mental Health. For the construction of this article, books by important authors on the subject, such as Nise da Silveira and Mauricio Ouyama, were also used, as well as research in a specialized journal in the field.
