Depression is a mental disorder characterized by persistent sadness, loss of interest, and low self-esteem, significantly affecting quality of life, especially in women. Regular physical activity has proven to be an effective complementary treatment strategy, providing physical, psychological, and social benefits. This study aimed to analyze the importance of physical activity in reducing depressive symptoms in women. This is a qualitative and descriptive literature review, based on scientific articles published in the last ten years in databases such as Scielo, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The results demonstrate that physical exercise contributes to increased release of endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine, neurotransmitters responsible for feelings of well-being and mood regulation. Furthermore, activities such as walking, light jogging, yoga, Pilates, and dancing have proven effective in reducing anxiety, improving sleep, and increasing self-esteem. It is concluded that physical activity is an important ally in the treatment of female depression, promoting mental health and quality of life.
