Abstract

Introduction: Antenatal care is carried out from the moment the pregnancy is confirmed, until the moment of delivery. This plays a fundamental role in the prevention and/or early detection of both maternal and fetal pathologies, allowing a healthy development of the baby and reducing the risks of the pregnant woman. Objective: Quantitatively analyze the incicidence of pregnant women who found to be carriers of the HIV vírus late in the rapid test performed during hospitalization for labor, and therefore did not perform the necessary prophylaxis for vertical transmission of the virus, and from this research, to emphasize the importance of performing adequate prenatal care. Method: A retrospective search was carried out in the medica lrecords of pregnant women who had their deliveries performed in a public maternity hospital in Campos dos Goytacazes and who were then referred to the reception center for patients with sexually transmitted infections in the same city. Results: The percentage of pregnant women who discovered they were HIV positive during the prenatal consultations of the pregnancy studied was 30% and 51.67% already knew the diagnosis before the beginning of the pregnancy. However, it was possible to observe that 18.33% discovered that they had contracted the HIV virus only during hospitalization for childbirth. Among the 18.33% parturients who discovered the infection at the time of delivery, 54.54% of them did not perform prenatal care, 9.09% performed prenatal care inadequately, 27.27% had negative serology for HIV during antenatal careand the other 9.09% had an unknown cause for the discovery of the diagnosis only during hospitalization for the delivery.
