Abstract

Military police work is marked by challenges that go beyond the technical and operational field, involving intense emotional and psychological demands resulting from direct contact with violence, rigid hierarchy and social responsibility. In this context, understanding the experiences of pleasure and suffering of professionals from the Military Police of Pará (PMPA) becomes essential to analyze the subjective impacts of overt policing on the mental health and functional performance of agents. The objective was to analyze the experiences of pleasure and suffering in the work of military police officers in the development of the PMPA's overt policing. This was a qualitative and descriptive bibliographical review, based on works published between 2015 and 2025, consulted in the SciELO and Google Scholar databases, covering books, scientific articles and institutional documents on work psychodynamics, mental health and police organization. The results showed that pleasure is associated with the feeling of belonging, the vocation to serve and social recognition, while suffering arises from factors such as emotional overload, daily violence, lack of appreciation and precarious working conditions. It was also observed that the coexistence of these dimensions directly affects the quality of life and mental health of police officers, reflecting on their personal and professional relationships. It was concluded that understanding this duality is fundamental for the development of institutional policies aimed at promoting well-being, valuing professionals and strengthening permanent psychosocial support programs within military corporations.
