Abstract

Stroke is a treatable and preventable global public health problem, with incidence rates continuing to rise in relation to population growth and aging. This study aimed to identify the main nursing practices in emergency room care for stroke patients. The choice of this topic is justified by the epidemiological, clinical, and social magnitude of this condition, which represents one of the leading causes of death and functional disability globally and nationally. To this end, a narrative literature review on the topic was conducted in the following databases: PubMed, Google Scholar, SciELO, and online journals. Current literature has shown that patient satisfaction with nursing care is an indicator of the quality of healthcare services; however, other related hospital services also influence the quality of care provided to hospitalized stroke patients. Nursing professionals must feel safe and confident in order to

improve the quality of care provided. To this end, it is necessary to further develop the availability of health education in this field. Furthermore, it is important to keep clinical nursing practice up to date with evidence-based guidelines, as well as to develop interventions to promote independence in stroke patients' self-care. The findings of this study provide support for strengthening a line of care for stroke patients, aiming for an effective transition of care.
