Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Adolescence is a period marked by several physical and emotional changes. During this phase, sex education is of paramount importance, given the significant increase in the number of pregnant teenagers in recent years. Pregnancy at this stage of life causes various emotional problems that, in many cases, affect the mother-child relationship. METHODOLOGY: This study consists of an integrative literature review, aiming to critically analyze and discuss the topic of adolescent pregnancy. The research was conducted between August and September 2025, using specific keywords (such as "Pregnancy and adolescence," "High-risk pregnancy") combined with Boolean operators to optimize the search. Reliable databases were consulted, including BVS, Lilacs, Scielo, and PubMed, with inclusion criteria of articles published in the last five years, in Portuguese, and related to the topic, while reviews, theses, and works in other languages were excluded. The selected data were organized into tables and discussed in light of the relevant literature. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Adolescent pregnancy entails several risks to the health of the mother and baby, including gestational complications such as pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, premature birth, and difficulties in fetal development. In addition to the physical impacts, early pregnancy can compromise the emotional health of the young woman, increasing social and economic vulnerability, especially when there is a lack of family support and limited access to health services, highlighting the need for multidisciplinary follow-up and public policies for prevention and support. CONCLUSION: Adolescent pregnancy constitutes a public health problem, with biological, social, emotional, and economic impacts, aggravated by the physical immaturity of young women and by factors such as poverty, violence, and abandonment. To mitigate its consequences, it is essential to implement sexual and reproductive education policies, as well as ensure multidisciplinary support that offers physical, psychological, and social assistance, promoting better living conditions and development for mothers and children.
