This study aimed to describe how nursing professionals perform in emergency departments regarding humanized care, identifying practices, facilitating factors, and challenges faced by professionals in implementing this care. To this end, an integrative literature review was conducted, including scientific publications, and journals indexed between 2015 and 2025, obtained from databases such as BIREME/LILACS, PubMed/Medline, SciELO, and the CAPES Journal Portal, as well as complementary sources such as BVS and Google Scholar. The results indicate that nurses play a central role in humanization, acting not only in the execution of technical procedures but also in welcoming, active listening, empathy, and the promotion of ethical and respectful relationships. Among the factors that favor humanized practice are professional training guided by ethical and humanistic values, institutional support, effective communication, and collaborative work. However, barriers such as work overload, scarcity of resources, a fast-paced environment, and emotional pressure can compromise the delivery of humanized care. We conclude that, despite the challenges, humanizing emergency care is feasible and necessary, benefiting both patients and nursing professionals. Consolidating institutional policies, ongoing training, and welcoming work environments are essential to promoting quality care, strengthening interpersonal relationships, and job satisfaction.
