Introduction: Childhood immunization is one of the most effective public health prevention strategies, reducing morbidity and mortality from vaccine-preventable diseases, although Brazil has experienced a decline in vaccination coverage due to informational, socioeconomic, and structural barriers. Objective: To analyze the role of nursing in promoting and ensuring adherence to childhood vaccination, considering factors that influence caregivers’ decisions and the strategies used to increase coverage. Methodology: The study was conducted through a literature review of articles published in the last ten years, selected using descriptors related to nursing, childhood immunization, and vaccination coverage, allowing the identification of factors associated with vaccine hesitancy and the practices adopted by the nursing team. Conclusion: The results indicate that strengthening nursing actions is essential to reverse low adherence, highlighting the importance of health education, clarification of doubts, active search strategies, clear communication, and service organization. Thus, investing in professional training and policies that expand access is crucial to ensure individual and collective protection and maintain the effectiveness of the National Immunization Program.
