Abstract

Introduction: PCOS is a complex metabolic and hormonal condition characterized by anovulation, hyperandrogenism, and multiple ovarian cysts. It is associated with infertility, menstrual irregularity, insulin resistance, obesity, and emotional changes, significantly affecting patients' quality of life. Methodology: An integrative literature review was conducted, considering articles published between 2021 and 2025 in the BVS, PubMed, LILACS, SciELO, and MEDLINE databases. The descriptors "nursing care," "therapeutic measures," and "polycystic ovary syndrome" were used. Studies outside the time frame or unrelated were excluded. Data were organized by author, year, objective, and main findings. Results and discussion: The main challenges identified include difficult early diagnosis, hormonal complexity, social and emotional impacts, and adherence to treatment. Effective strategies involve interdisciplinary management, integration of pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, lifestyle changes, nutritional guidance, and psychological support. The central role of nursing in Primary Care was highlighted, promoting welcoming, health education, and continuous follow-up. The management of PCOS requires an individualized and integrative approach, considering physiological, metabolic, and psychosocial factors. Adherence to treatment is facilitated by humanized strategies and the strengthening of the bond between the patient and the multidisciplinary team. Conclusion: The treatment of PCOS requires personalized, integrated, and humanized approaches, aiming to reduce complications, improve adherence to treatment, and promote well-being and quality of life.
