The main objective of this study was to discuss the role of nurses in implementing new technologies for patients with ostomies, understanding the limitations and benefits of using these technological innovations. A qualitative and descriptive study was conducted, using a literature review to support the study. The results obtained demonstrated that the implementation of new technologies for people with ostomies by a trained professional with technical and scientific knowledge about the use of these devices contributes to the development of autonomy and quality of life for the patient. However, there are still limitations involving the lack of access to technology, the deficit in the standardization of devices, and the lack of professional qualification. It is concluded that nurses need to assume their leading role and seek to acquire knowledge about the use of technologies and techniques to use them in order to promote patient autonomy, adaptation, overcome the stigmatization of the associated health condition, and reintegrate the patient into social life.
