Instrumental Portuguese is a practice that enables students to develop the skills and competencies necessary for reading and producing texts, allowing for greater focus in their communication and academic production, meeting the needs that this level demands regarding scientific production. This study aims to reflect on the importance of the instrumental Portuguese teacher in higher education courses, given the need for the effective use of this practice in the student's academic life. Regarding the research methodology, it is characterized as bibliographic, encompassing the process of reading, analyzing, and interpreting already published material, such as books, magazines, newspapers, theses, dissertations, and proceedings of scientific events, which serve as support for the construction and reflection of other studies. Based on the theoretical results found, the practice of teaching Instrumental Portuguese in higher education courses brings a reflection on the need to develop practices related to reading, interpretation, and writing in the academic context and in the training of students according to the level of knowledge they are seeking in this environment, generating greater performance in communication and academic production and, consequently, the formation of a good professional.
