Abstract

A literature review on the analysis of anticoagulants and thrombotic events in the COVID-19 pandemic reveals the complexity and diversity of therapeutic approaches used to treat the disease. The integrative review study analyzed 2,263 articles, of which 53 were selected after inclusion criteria, and 18 were finally included after exclusion and analysis of abstracts. Recent studies have highlighted the importance of anticoagulation in COVID-19 patients, especially those in critical condition, due to the high incidence of thrombotic complications. Heparin and rNAPc2 emerge as promising therapeutic options, although results vary depending on disease severity and other factors. Colchicine has also shown potential in reducing inflammatory and coagulation biomarkers, indicating possible efficacy in controlling the exacerbated inflammatory response associated with COVID-19. Furthermore, studies emphasize the importance of a multifaceted approach in the treatment of COVID-19, considering not only anticoagulation but also other aspects of the patient's immune and inflammatory response. Analysis of available data suggests that treatment choice should be tailored to disease severity and individual patient characteristics, with the possibility of considering combination therapies for better outcomes. In summary, the analysis of anticoagulants and thrombotic events in the COVID-19 pandemic highlights the need for a comprehensive and personalized approach to treating the disease. Further research is needed to clarify the specific role of different anticoagulant therapies and their effectiveness at different stages of the disease, in order to improve clinical outcomes and reduce morbidity and mortality associated with COVID-19.
