Abstract

Introduction: Breastfeeding is important for children because it prevents the development of future diseases, such as childhood obesity and respiratory problems. Therefore, the role of nurses in breastfeeding education helps prevent breast complications, thus avoiding early weaning. Objective: To present the role of nurses in preventing breast complications during breastfeeding. Methods: Articles were selected according to the following inclusion criteria: intervention study, randomized trial, multicenter cohort study, systematic review, and articles available in full, in Portuguese and English, published between 2016 and 2025, with free access, and addressing the theme "The role of nurses in preventing breast complications during breastfeeding." Abstracts, theses, dissertations, and monographs were excluded. Nine articles were ultimately included in this study. Results/Discussions: Breastfeeding has a significant impact on the health of both mother and child, and developing actions aimed at supporting breastfeeding prevents complications. Final considerations: The role of the nurse in preventing breast complications in the postpartum period is important to ensure exclusive breastfeeding.
