Introduction: The role of the pharmacist in community pharmacies has been consolidated as an essential element for promoting health and the rational use of medicines. General Objective: To understand the professional practice of pharmacists in community pharmacies, highlighting their activities, challenges, and contributions to public health and medication safety. Methodology: This study was developed through an integrative literature review, covering publications from 2023 to 2025 in national and international databases. The analysis included articles that specifically addressed the pharmacist’s role in community pharmacies, focusing on their clinical and educational functions. Results: The findings show that the presence of pharmacists positively impacts therapeutic adherence, prevents medication errors, and reduces self-medication. Additionally, pharmacists strengthen trust bonds with the community and expand integration between community pharmacies and the health system. However, barriers such as administrative overload, commercial pressures, and lack of institutional recognition were identified, limiting the full effectiveness of this practice. Conclusion: Strategies to strengthen pharmacists’ practice include pharmacotherapeutic follow-up programs, health education initiatives, and partnerships with primary healthcare units. It is concluded that valuing pharmacists is essential to broaden their social contribution, consolidating community pharmacies as spaces of care and support.
