Abstract

This study aims to investigate the challenges of including autistic children in the teaching and learning process in Early Childhood Education. The inclusion of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Early Childhood Education represents a significant advance in building a more democratic and welcoming school. This work addresses the challenges and possibilities of school inclusion, highlighting the importance of teacher training, curricular adaptation, and the school environment as essential factors in ensuring the comprehensive development of autistic children. The methodology adopted was qualitative and consisted of interviews with two teachers—P1 and P2—from a municipal school in the municipality of Amaraji, located in the Demarcação district. The work of the teaching team, family support, and the use of inclusive pedagogical practices are fundamental to promoting learning, socialization, and respect for differences. The research shows that, when there is institutional commitment and educational sensitivity, it is possible to transform the school into a space of belonging and equity.
