Abstract

This article aimed to analyze the role of the nurse in caring for elderly patients with Alzheimer’s disease and their families, based on Imogene King’s Goal Attainment Theory. The methodology used was a systematic literature review, selecting articles published between 2015 and 2025 from the SCIELO and CAPES Periodicals databases, complemented by legislation and public policies focused on elderly health. The results highlight the need for a multidisciplinary, individualized, and continuous approach that considers the physical, emotional, socioeconomic, and spiritual aspects involved in the caregiving process. It is concluded that nurses, by applying strategies grounded in nursing theories and humanized practices, contribute significantly to improving the quality of life of elderly patients with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers. Strengthening support networks, professional training, and valuing active listening are essential to ensure comprehensive and effective care in the face of the challenges posed by the disease.
