Introduction: The study chosen for construction has as its theme the oral hygiene of patients coupled to invasive mechanical ventilation. After a brief initial research to approach the topic and which supported our deepening, we identified some individual studies in Brazil, which point to pneumonia associated with invasive ventilation as one of the main causes of infections related to health care. Objective: The study aims to discuss, according to the national literature, how oral hygiene influences the prevention of pneumonia. Methodology: In this study, we opted for an integfative literature review, which is a method that allows us to analyze and synthesize the results in a systematic way. Results: The search in the databases was carried out between the months of April 2021 to August 2021, using descriptors related to our research objective. Discussion: Critically ill patients depend fully on the care provided by health professionals, and the knowledge and attitudes of these professionals influence their recovery. Care protocols are useful in the nursing field. Final Considerations: Nursing care in intensive care has a preponderant role for being an assistance that always seeks to promote the well-being of human beings, acting to prevent complications related to invasive mechanical ventilation.
