Abstract

In the hospital setting, pharmacists play a fundamental and diverse role in ensuring the safety and efficacy of patient medication. This role encompasses several functions, such as medication dispensing, pharmacovigilance, involvement in therapeutic committees, clinical pharmacy work, medication management, and continuing health education for patients. Objectives: The general objective of this study is to identify how pharmacists contribute to health education through pharmaceutical care. The specific objectives are: To describe how the hospital pharmacy operates; to mention the clinical services provided by pharmacists; to verify how pharmacists contribute to health education; and to illustrate how hospital pharmacists work through pharmaceutical care. Methodology: The methodology used in this study was a bibliographic review. A survey of articles in the literature was conducted using the general health sciences databases Google Scholar, SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature), as well as official websites such as CFF (Federal Council of Pharmacy), covering the period from 2020 to 2025. Conclusion: The actions of clinical pharmacists, based on quality indicators and safety protocols, have led to a considerable reduction in costs and length of hospital stays, highlighting the economic and social value of this service, in addition to contributing to health education.
