This article analyzed the relevance of implementing a systematic methodology for the training of detection dogs in the Military Police of Paraná (PMPR), taking as reference the consolidated model of the Military Police of the State of São Paulo (PMESP). The research adopted a qualitative approach, based on bibliographic review and observations made during the author’s participation in the Specialization Course in Training and Employment of Detection Dogs, held at the 5th Shock Police Battalion – PMESP Canine Unit, in March 2025. The study examined the scientific foundations that support the São Paulo methodology and how they are translated into practice. The results indicated that the PMESP model—based on General Administration Theory, structured in four progressive training cycles, and supported by conformity assessments—constitutes an effective reference for ensuring reliability, standardization, and technical-operational performance of dog–handler teams. It is concluded that adapting this model to the PMPR context tends to strengthen the institution, enhance canine doctrine, and expand the legal security of operations, consolidating detection dog activity as a strategic tool in combating crime while optimizing the use of resources.
