Abstract

Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that affects millions of people worldwide, significantly impacting their quality of life. This study aims to analyze asthma treatment protocols and their effects on patients' quality of life, in addition to identifying the challenges faced in the clinical implementation of these protocols. The research was motivated by the need to understand how current guidelines can be optimized to improve patient outcomes. Using the PRISMA methodology, 4 articles were selected from the PubMed, SciELO and BVS databases, covering the period from 2019 to 2024. The inclusion criteria were studies in Portuguese and English, available in full, that discussed asthma treatment protocols and their impacts. The exclusion criteria included studies unavailable in full, case studies and experience reports that did not directly address the topic. The results indicate that, although current protocols have advanced in standardizing treatment and reducing exacerbations, there are still significant barriers to patient adherence and treatment personalization. Factors such as the complexity of therapeutic regimens and the lack of resources in clinical settings limit the effectiveness of protocols. It is concluded that, to improve the quality of life of asthmatic patients, it is essential to develop strategies that consider the individual needs of patients and promote adherence to treatment, in addition to training health professionals for the effective implementation of protocols.
