Hospital malnutrition is an underestimated comorbidity that impacts morbidity and mortality and increases healthcare costs. Its etiology is multifactorial, requiring an integrated approach. Prevention begins with early nutritional screening, using tools such as the NRS-2002, to identify patients at risk. Diagnosis requires synergy between a physician and a nutritionist, combining anthropometric and clinical parameters. Treatment is individualized, with the nutritionist prescribing the diet and the physician ensuring the appropriate access route (enteral or parenteral). Continuous monitoring is crucial for adjusting therapy and managing complications. Collaboration extends to hospital discharge, ensuring continuity of care. In essence, the integration of physician and nutritionist is vital to reverse malnutrition, optimize prognosis, and improve the quality of care.
